This week the Enterprise is docked at Deep Space Nine and I am visiting nearby Bajor. My first stop was for lunch - my mission is to find the spiciest hasperat in all of Bajor. My next purchase was a souvenir Bajoran earring. I also made sure to visit their aerospace museum; the ancient Bajorans built solar sailcraft that rode the eddies of a nearby wormhole to travel between star systems, and the museum keeps some of these relics. Bajoran scientific and technologic advancements are so renowned that even during the Occupation, the Cardassians kept Bajoran libraries, laboratories and universities intact and operating.
Hasperat is a potently spicy pickle, usually served rolled in a flatbread spread with soft cheese. It's a very popular dish on Bajor and on Deep Space Nine. Hasperat is first introduced in TNG Season 7, Episode 24, "Premptive Strike." When Bajoran Ensign Ro infiltrates a Maquis cell, she is surprised to discover that hasperat is a favorite of the cell leader. Ro reminisces about the hasperat her father used to make, and promises to prepare some authentic hasperat from the family recipe she inherited. Apparently, Mr. Ro's hasperat was so strong that all other hasperat pales in comparison.

To make hasperat, all you need are three things: flatbread, cream cheese and kimchi. Spread a flatbread with cream cheese, layer kimchi on top, roll and slice.
